Psychiatric Day Hospital Program

The Day Hospital Program (DH Program) is a short term stabilization program for patients experiencing acute, severe mental health issues. It is an alternative option for patients that would otherwise be admitted to an inpatient unit or require crisis services.

The DH Program is 4 weeks in duration, operating from Monday to Friday during business hours. The DH Program is an intensive program predominantly focused on group-based skill development, combined with opportunities for individual and supported skills integration. Patients develop and work towards specific goals throughout the program, with primary support from a therapist, and other multidisciplinary team members as required.

Eligibility

Specific criteria is outlined on the Day Hospitial Referral form. Referral form must be completed in Connect Care using the day hospital referral form smartphrase.

All four Psychiatric Day Hospital Programs in Calgary offer one brochure to inform referral sources of the process.

Healthcare providers should consult the for service referral information.

Application and registration required, by appointment, internet based service, and telephone information line available. At present the service is on Zoom, the hope is to return to in-person as soon as possible.

The waiting period varies from 2 to 4 weeks. Wait time varies, call for latest times.
