This program partners with Indigenous peoples, communities and key stakeholders to provide accessible, culturally appropriate health services for First Nations, Métis and Inuit people in Â鶹ӳ».The Indigenous Wellness Core (IWC) delivers health services for First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples in Â鶹ӳ». The IWC works with Indigenous peoples, communities and other partners to provide services to Indigenous patients that honour their culture, beliefs and identities.
Our work is guided by five important areas:
- Caring for our patients with respect and dignity
- Improving access to health services
- Treating people as unique individuals
- Managing addictions and mental health
- Staying up to date on the health of Indigenous Â鶹ӳ»ns
We do this by connecting with Indigenous communities, leaders, decision-makers, and most importantly, our patients. In addition, we are guided by the advice of our Wisdom Council, a group of First Nations, Métis and Inuit Â鶹ӳ»ns who first came together in September 2012. Their goal is to help ensure that all Indigenous Â鶹ӳ»ns receive the best possible health care.
