Duties
- Capture high-quality magnetic resonance images (MRIs) in accordance with physician requests
- Review patients¡¯ medical histories for things that preclude patients from the procedure (e.g. pacemakers, implanted devices precluding MRIs)
- Prepare patients for MRIs by explaining MRI procedures to patients, responding to patients¡¯ questions and needs
- Inject contrast agents when required
- Ensure the safety of everyone within the MRI area
Make a Difference
- Help patients, physicians, and other health professionals get the information they need for an accurate diagnosis
- Facilitate monitoring and management of ongoing health concerns
- Help physicians in preventative and preemptive treatment of disease
- Participate in medical research studies
- Collect data for public health surveillance
Work Collaboratively
- Often work independently with their patients, giving opportunity to build one-on-one rapport
- Collaborate with an interprofessional team that can include other technologists, therapists, physicians and nurses, as well as staff on cancer care and inpatient units
- May provide leadership and work guidance to fellow diagnostic imaging staff, radiography students, and other health care professionals
