Measuring brain function
Electroneurophysiology (ENP) technologists measure the electrical activity of the brain (EEG) and nerves (EMG/NCS) using neurodiagnostic testing equipment such as electromyography (EMG), and electrocephalography (EEG).
They work with physicians to diagnose epilepsy, seizures, strokes, and determine spinal cord injuries, tumours, or inflammation of the nerves.
Compensation
$35.45 - $46.69 per hour

Duties
- Measure the electrical activity of the brain (EEG) and nerves (EMG/NCS)
- Operate neurodiagnostic testing equipment, including electroencephalography (EEG), electromyography (EMG), evoked potentials (EP), and nerve conduction studies
- Maintain neurodiagnostic testing equipment
Make a Difference
- Prepare patients for procedures, explain procedures to patients, and answer patient questions
- Ensure patient safety by monitoring brain, nerve, and spinal cord function during surgeries or while patients are sleeping
- Help physicians make diagnoses
- Monitor progression of disease or efficacy of treatment
Work Collaboratively
- Often work independently, focused on computers and electrical equipment
- Work with physicians to interpret results
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including nurses, therapists, and more
- Work in a variety of facilities including hospitals and research facilities
